French Fashion Designers

Christian Dior is one of the most influential fashion designers in the world.

During his career, he was responsible for much of the spread of the French fashion designer to the world.

Dior was born on January 21, 1905, in the seaside town of Granville in Normandy, France.

Christian Dior comes from a wealthy family and grew up together with four other siblings in a House with an ocean view.

When Dior was about five years old, his family moved to Paris, but still regularly returned to the Normandy coast for summer vacation.

Dior studied political science to the delight of his parents despite the fact he wanted to become an architect.

Although the parents hope their children Christian Dior would become a diplomat, his father finally willing to finance the opening of an art gallery owned Dior in 1928.

Art Gallery turned out to be quite successful and showcased a variety of works of great artists such as Pablo Picasso.

Three years later, after the death of his brother and mother as well as a result of the decline of the family group the fertilizer business Dior, the art galleries to be closed.

Along with the closure of the Gallery, Christian Dior lived himself by selling fashion sketches for fashion houses.

He works for a large enough fashion company which was owned by Lucien Lelong in 1940-1945 before switching to similar business belongs to Marcel Boussac.

Boussac, called The King of Cotton, has a clothing company called Philippe in Gaston.

Boussac helps finance the establishment of The House of Dior in a big house with eight employees.

In 1947, the label owned Christian Dior New Look has strongly influenced fashion worldwide.

The term New Look given to design Dior because it is considered to have different look from the fashion style at that time.

Dress design Dior famous for attracting such as hourglass shape design which became a trend in the late 1940 ‘s to early 1950 ‘s.

Christian Dior became a successful and wealthy as a world-famous fashion designer.

He died in Italy in 1957 after choking on a fish bone and then having a heart attack.

Yves Saint Laurent, Dior’s Assistant for four years, became head designer of Dior following the death of the founder
